You won’t have to pay a co-pay for any office visits, office procedures or physicals. Also you’ll be able to avoid<\/span> some<\/span> visits altogether by sending your questions directly via email and text. \u00a0We can advise you where to get the least expensive labs, medications, blood tests, X-rays, MRI’s and CT’s. \u00a0<\/span>If we had contracts with insurance companies, we would be<\/span> <\/b><\/span>legally obligated to charge higher prices.<\/span> <\/span>Most DPC patients find a high-deductible, low-premium insurance plan so they’re<\/span> <\/b><\/span>covered in the case of a major health issue. \u00a0Primary care can do a lot, but certainly not everything and is not equivalent to having insurance.<\/span><\/p>\n

DPC is not insurance. It is still important to have insurance for specialist care, emergencies and care not covered by a DPC membership.<\/p>\n

There are at least two insurance companies available in Maine that cover all or part of your DPC membership and the number is likely to grow as the DPC model grows in popularity. Those insurance carriers that cover DPC membership are:<\/p>\n

-Mending Health (formerly Taro Health, through coverme.gov)<\/p>\n

-Health Access Solutions (not ACA qualified, but covers more than just
catastrophes – I can help you sign up).<\/p>\n

Western Foothills DPC\u00a0 is not in network with any insurance plans, however we work well with your Insurance. We can still order labs, procedures, imaging, consults and medications to be covered by your insurance. Membership in a DPC practice pairs particularly well with high deductible plans. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Yes! As of January 1st 2026 health savings accounts can be used to pay for direct primary care memberships.<\/p>\n

[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=”Is this the same as concierge medicine?” _builder_version=”4.27.6″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}” open=”on”]<\/p>\n

The terms are often mistakenly used interchangeably, but they are not the same. Both DPC and concierge practices charge a periodic fee, however, under the concierge model, this fee is usually higher and only gets you access; that is, it doesn’t actually cover any of your care. Instead, a concierge practice still bills insurance for your visits and your co-pay. Under DPC, your visits and other care are included in your fee.<\/span><\/p>\n
